I litterly had to stand up and wave to get the waitresses attention. We debated leaving as the waitress was walking away with our order.
La Tapatia came recommended and it has good reviews. We are not going back.
Used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Escondido, definitely great salsa- unfortunately they appear to have difficulties getting their dishes clean- we sent back a glass because it had lipstick on the rim, only to have it replaced by another cup also with lipstick on the rim- staff behaved as if we were unreasonable because we wanted our food/drinks in clean utensils. We canceled our order, and left. When I called the following day because the manager wasn't on premises the first day, they insisted that I needed to continue to call back to reach him, I explained that the health department would be easy to reach, and that my intention was to contact them if I didn't hear from the manager at which point, they pointed out the owner is an attorney, not sure what that has to do with anything! After about an hour, the manager did call me back, funny how when you mention the health department he can suddenly be located. He explained that they have a service who checks out their dish washing equipment weekly, maybe he meant WEAKLY!. Although he was pleasant, he offered nothing other than an apology.. If you can't get visible food off the dishes, I would be skeptical that they are in fact clean of bacteria which is not so easily cleaned. Regardless of the dish washing equipment, the staff should be visually checking for food/other dirt stuck to the dishes, even the manager said that they are supposed to do that because cheese will often bake on during the dry cycle. I definitely WILL NEVER GO BACK- staff is untrained, unhelpful- and the food isn't that good that it is worth risking food borne illnesses, or whatever the guest who used your glasses/cups before you might be harboring.
This Old Traditional Mexican Restaurant has been serving FANTASTIC and FRESH, Traditional Mexican Food since the 1940's in the same Building, all the Locals Know it, maybe it should stay that way. No recooked mush here! Large Outdoor Patio Dining, Fast service, Full Bar. Would else could anyone want, but it still gives more. I first ate here in the mid 60's, and when I go back today it's like going back in time! Come Casual or Dressy, this place fits the bill for both. Moderate prices (you'd even probably pay more at those chain joints), wonderful ambience, and much more! You will not be disappointed here!
