| About: | This Japanese restaurant, located just one block from the coast, is quite informal, best suited for casual family occasions, take-out or dining alone. The restaurant's decor is a flashback to the American 70s era. Wood paneling covers the walls, while booths feature gold upholstery. Chicken Teriyaki is a popular dish, served with rice, soup and salad. For a bit larger entree, try the Salmon Teriyaki Combination, including rice, salad, soup and six California Rolls. Sushi rolls are also sold on an individual basis and vegetarian dishes are available. |

Ogata is a great place for Encinitas. This kind of restaurant is found mainly in Kearny Mesa and is rare in our area. The food and service are commendable.
Ogata is the best place to eat Japanese food. Try especially for "Spicy tuna tempura". I lived in Japan for a long time, but Ogara ranks in the top class. People are very friendly and their service is great, and the price is great! My friends and I eat there frequently.
To all of you who really love Japanese food...DO NOT eat here. The rice for sushi and for the meals were very dry. The sushi tasted like it was store bought. You know, cold and dry. This was my first and last experience here. Service was WEAK. No drink refills, not once did our server come back to provide any extra services other than dropping off our food. I had to go to the counter to get anything else we needed to make their food more palatable. For great deals on sushi go to Niban's or Tajima in Clairemont. Or if you are really feeling the beach atmosphere go to Ichiban or Kabuki's in Pacific Beach. Good Japanese food and much better deals than at Ogata's. You will also be pleased with the prices of the food at above mentioned restaurants. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! At Ogata's you DO NOT get what you paid for. Ogata' has been my WORST EXPERIENCE EVER ever for Japanese food.
