I enjoy the art exhibitions at The Athenaeum, especially the sculpture and architecture works. Lectures in arts appreciation span a variety of topics. Last month, Erik Haskell presented The Gardens of Brécy. The amazing formal gardens are now on my sight seeing list for the next time I travel to France. I am looking forward to the upcoming âForces Of Natureâ in April. My calendar has something marked almost every month for an event at The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library.
Who's In Charge?: I walked into the Athenaum Music and Arts Library on Saturday, April 8, 2006, to have my first look around inside. I'd passed the building which is quite beautiful a multitude of times in the past and had always promised myself I'd attend a concert there one day. With my birthday coming up on the 17th friends of mine proposed going there to celebrate. So, naturally, I was excited to get a peek at the place. A man was seated at a huge desk facing the entrance to the library as I walked through the door and I tried to make eye contact but he was talking on the phone. The interior space is rather small but charmingly decorated and there was an incredible display on view at the time. So I proceeded to browse, occasionally looking over at this gentleman with the intention of saying hello when he finished his call. At some point when my back was turned he got off the phone and as I looked at him again I got the distinct impression he was not going to speak to me - and he didn't. He said not a word of greeting or asked to be of service the whole time I was there. I actually began to feel uncomfortable so I left. I think it's unfortunate that this occured because now I don't want to buy a ticket to the upcoming show but my friends (one of whom also has a birthday on the 17th) really want to go. What to do, what to do?
