| About: | San Diego locals recommend the top-notch Pacific Rim fare offered at this downtown restaurant, Fifth & Hawthorn. With a new dinner menu printed each day, this venue always has innovative cuisine for the faithful patron. Typical selections include catfish, salmon and sea bass. A full-service bar is available as well as an extensive wine selection. The restaurant is hidden away from the frequently traveled spots in the downtown district. Diners will find this restaurant tucked away amidst an environment of small offices. The ambience is lacking, but the cuisine is sensational. |

What can I say?: I love it! You cannot get a better value than Fifth and Hawthorne's Wine Dinner. I have been taking my girlfriend there for years. For $55, two people can get a bottle of wine, two filet mignon steaks, appetizers and desert. And the service, ambiance and quality is not lacking in any way.
Highly recommended!
2006 changes: This restaurant was indeed a jem. My wife and I visited San Diego several years ago and happened across an article that called "Fifth.." the "best restaurant in San Diego". On top of that, at the time, a complete dinner for 2 including appetizers, salad or soup, main, dessert and a bottle of wine was $50. Since that time, the restaurant has moved locations to a more expensive piece of real estate. As a result, the special has sadly gone away also.
My favorite restaurant.: Fifth and Hawthorn has the best, melt in your mouth, filet mignon. It is a small intimate restaurant that provides excellent service.
