I Have Lived In San Diego All My Life! I Went To Fidel's For The First Time Last Week And Was Very Satisfied! The Salsa,Beans,And Albondigas Soup Is The BEST! I Sat In The Bar Area And Had Excellent Service From JESUS! Thank You!
Probably the worst restaurant experience I ever had! Celebrating a 15 year old's birthday should have been delightful. Just the opposite. Reservations were accepted for 9 people at 8 p.m. After being seated in the "service area"-loud-banging dishes etc., the server pressured everyone to order immediately-Not a smile, or "Happy Birthday"--just "order--the kitchen is closing!" Food was served, barely warm; mine went back, and was returned having been microwaved-the sour cream and guacamole having been scraped off. It was unacceptable, and the item was taken off the very steep bill.
After having this restaurant recommended, and reading some positive reviews, it seemed a good choice for a birthday dinner. But it was probably the worst Mexican food I ever tasted, and the worst service and seating location.
The good news is that the birthday girl and her friends had a good time together.
i've been going to fidel's since i could walk. it's way better than tony's next door and has a great back story. it's a little campy but they're just trying to cater to our gringo ideas. and the lady who's husband "got food poisoning" is full of it, the incubation process is 8-12 hours. he wouldn't be sick right away. it's a great restaurant that has been around for decades. i work at another great mexican restaurant and still go to fidel's. all of these stand to reason. if you have a bad experience, it's a fluke or you're pretentious.
