| About: | Featuring a cocktail bar, oyster bar, dining room and fish market, this spot is always crowded with San Diego locals. The fish is unbelievably fresh and all sauces, soups and sides are made on site daily. The menu changes daily, as entree choices are dependent upon fishing success. Generally, Smoked Fish tops the menu, with popular options including Pacific Swordfish and Pacific King Salmon. For those who prefer shellfish, consider Oysters Rockefeller or Clams Con Pesto. Lobster tails are a specialty, hence worth a try. Call ahead for hours of operation. |

Not impressed by this place. Service was okay and the meals were overpriced. Both of the dishes ordered were disappointments. The broiled alaskan halibut lacked flavor and the fishwife rice was just as dull. The red snapper meal was similarly disappointing. The New England and Manhattan chowders were the best part of our meal. Even the bar came up short; serving me an old fashion glass 3/4 full and they claimed to have already poured the shot of Grand Marnier into my cadillac margarita. Avoid this place unless you like over-paying for dull and uninteresting food.
This place is always very crowded you will probalby need to wait at least 5 to 10 minutes for a seat. The chowder is awesome. The fish is good a little overpriced but they do have the location to be able to charge that. Try the baked potatoe.
If you know outstanding fish, go elsewhere!: This is a popular and very busy seafood restaurant. Great location, beautiful decor, lousy service and mediocre food. We went there following my niece's graduation, which was held across the street at the Del Mar fairgrounds. We had a party of 13. One thing that the Fish Market servers do extremely well is suggestive up-selling! They kept pushing the alcoholic beverages, appetizers and of course, the most expensive entrees on the menu were their favorites! Tonight's big push was the Hawaiian Ono for about $24 a plate. Perhaps their remaining overstock from the days before? Service was very slow, server check-backs were nonexistent. The food came out cold and the quality of the fish rates a C-. I have to give them credit for keeping the water glasses filled. For the price, the food is disappointing. Certainly not delicately prepared and sauces were lacking. We won't be back.
