Support this real LBS! Unfortunately, this "brick & mortor" format is a dying breed in light of all of the corporate shops poping up and gobbling all of the local retail business and the internet/e-commerce explosion. Ironically, I was referred to this shop by an employee of one of those giant corporate stores for a hard-to-find part after refusing to buy a brand new "bundled" product set. This shop actually keeps a huge cache of old, discarded parts so that customers who can't or don't want to spend unnecessarily. Two years ago, I needed an old rear derailer to scavenge parts off of to rebuild my original one, and they were able to sell me an "obsolete" model for $20 bucks. This week, I needed a replacement TPI shifter, and they were able to order me a new one for half the price of a "bundled set". The problem with most large corporate chains posing as a LBS, is that they only push bundled product costing the public more of their hard earned dollars. I urge everyone in the north county region of San Diego to try this shop out. It beats the hell out of Performance, Trek, and the other high-end boutique shops on the coast that only cater to the guy and gal (fatty masters) making six figures.
great business, i've been going there for parts for about 16 months now and they always have what i'm looking for and know what to do. the only downside is their prices are high compared to online stores but the service makes up for it, great place!
Alpha Bicycle Company, with its views of mountains and palm trees beyond Discount Tire and Midas across the street, is admittedly not in the most attractive part of Vista. When I visited in late March, 2009, the shop’s neighboring business, a band instrument supply store, was clearing out its final inventory while a homeless person on the sidewalk lazily watched until a police officer helped her to move on. With heavy vehicle traffic along the road whizzing by the company’s dilapidated sign on the street, regular police patrols keep the area safe, so there’s no need for bars on the windows in this low-rent district.
