| About: | The vintage-looking signage on the front reads, 'Cold Beer, Warm Friends', and that almost sums up Live Wire. However, it fails to mention some other important tidbits. For instance, all pours here are doubles, from a Johnnie Walker neat to a big 16-ounce mojito. Secondly, the beer selection is killer, heavy on good local brews. The bar is long and inviting, and big, red, comfy leather booths line one long wall, so there's rarely a shortage. The lighting is dim, the pool table is level and the music is loud. Happy Hour begins when the doors open and lasts until 8p, and when hunger strikes, Harar is just a block down El Cajon. |

One of the best dive bars in town.: Seriously you can't find a better bar. Drinks are fairly priced. $3.50 for bottled beer. $4.00 for PBR tall cans. $4.50 for pints of beer (about 24 beers on tap). $6.00 for cocktail/mixed drinks (in pints). They do have a small selection of wine, but I'm not sure on the cost. Great crowd. Younger crowd. Jukebox. Pool table. Live Music (usually a DJ every nite of the week). Mondays and Thursdays bring the crowd. Happy Hour specials now from 5 to 8pm Monday through Friday. Dogs welcomed. Awesome atmosphere. You won't be dissapointed.
Great place: Nice, empty bar at times with a great jukebox. Can be crowded, but at times deserted, which is good as it's so close to downtown.
Nice metal bicycle sculpture in front, predating the metal bicycle sculptures that have sprung up near that part of town in the past few years. How avant garde! No one knows.
Best Bar in North Park: After you burn out on the Down Town too much cologne sceen, and the erk jock bars of the beach areas, you are headed in one direction. North Park. A rich music and art sceen that is more interesting than most of San Diego together. Live Wire is at the top of this underground gold mine. If there is not a well knowen San Diego musician pouring your drink, there is probably one on the barstool next to you. The newest hot night is monday, and maybe the only thing going on on an other wise dismal night.
