Everytime I visit San Diego...I head straight to Ricky's from the airport for my fav....the San Diego Skillet....LOVE IT!!!
We stayed at the Ramada right next to Ricky's. The first day we ate at the Tickeled Trout for breakfast, what a disappointment, ,the food was bland and over priced. The next day we tried Ricky's for breakfast and man were we ever pleased. Not only is the food excellent but the prices are reasonable and the service is good. We'll definatly be going back as long as it stands.
We stayed in the Ramada right next door for 3 days. Every morning we just ignored this place as it looked like a joke. Come 'on "World Famous Apple Pancake" in the front windows... this place looks like it came out of a horror movie! On our last day in San Diego, for sh*ts and giggles we tried out Ricky's. Can't get over the architecture of the building, it has charm for its day. Inside is pretty clean considering the age. It will blast you into the past! I took a look at the A/C diffusers and they were clean, which is a sign as they do put care and pride in the place. Me and my father ordered the "Word Famous Apple Pancake" and my mother ordered French toast, with eggs, and bacon... some type of meal deal they have on the menu. I ordered a side of hash browns that were chunky. A different texture from others, but it was tasty, a little undercooked but I didn't mind, they were delicious. Our famous Pancake hits the table. Talk about huge (it's a two person plate), but over time the pancake deflates as it cools down. It was too hot out of the oven to enjoy. You have to let it cool down to start digging in. Unless you can handle hot and fresh right out of the oven. I thought my tongue was going to burn off. Anyways the pancake was good, but it was a little too sweet and too much cinnamon for my taste. Would I eat it again? Probably not, but I would defiantly go back to Ricky's for that French Toast! It looked good!
Plus the service was class act. Very friendly atmosphere!
