I went here for my birthday this year. I have to say it was one of my fave bdays! I have to say if you have extra money around you should check out the penguin experience for about $40. You get to go backstage with the penguins. You actually get to pet a live penguin (they are softer than ever!). They actually simulate how the artic would be for the penguins. Then if you have even more extra money laying around try out the swimming with the dolphins. It is about $160 and it is well worth it. You get to jump in the water in small group... wearing wet suits and pet, hug, perform tricks with the dolphin. Prob one of the most amazing things I have ever done. Most of the animals there are rescue ones or ones that were born there. It really is a nice place that isn't like others.
Seaworld is a great outing to have.It wasn't very crowded when i went and the exhibits were fun and educational.Seeing Shamu was soo cool, the trainers were awesome with the killer whales. The trainers in the dolphin show was my fav, before the show starts they have a warm up guy to get the crowd ready for the show.He performs classic songs like "Sweet Caroline" on his acoustic guitar to hype up the crowd. If you hate the smell of fish, this not for you.Of course it smells like fish at a majority of the shows and exhibits, the penguin exhibit was hard to get through. When you get to the shows, make sure to sit in the splash section. You only live once and when was the last time you said i was splashed by a killer whale or dolphin.
Being that I live in San Diego, I have the priveledge of spending alot of time at this wonderful park! We take advantage of their annual "fun pass" and find that it is MORE than worth it! Based on a few of the other reviews I thought I would clarify a few things... the penguin exhibit was dark probably because it is Winter in the Arctic, this is what I was told when I experienced the same thing. They had it dark so they are experiencing "real life" as they would in the wild. Also, we have been going to this park for over 10 yrs and I have NEVER stood in ANY line for more than 15 minutes, 40 minutes is more of a Disneyland wait in MY opinion! Sea World is definetly EXPENSIVE but if it's a place you are visiting as a tourist I think it's worth the money! The shows are GREAT, try coming later and staying for the evening shows, they're AMAZING! The food at the Shipwreck Rapids Cafe (I think that's it's name? It's the one right outside of the Shipwreck Rapids ride) has GREAT food (the ribs are YUMMY!)
