| About: | The fact that El Indio, a family-owned restaurant has been serving up good, authentic Mexican food since 1940, speaks volumes. Eating here says it all. Start the day with a breakfast burrito. A plate of chicken or beef taquitos or anything else on the menu for that matter is delicious. The prices are unbelievably low with many items USD8 or less. A festive indoor atmosphere is available, but most guests prefer to dine on one of the two outdoor patios. |

User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWhen I lived in San Diego, I lived right up the hill from El Indio (up until a job took me to Virginia in 92) and I would always go to El Indio. They always had wonderful food and when I last went back to San Diego in 2006 it was still as wonderful as I remembered it. Also, whoever said the place wasn't clean it could have been an off day because any time I was there it was spotless and believe me, I have high standards where cleanliness is concerned. I would give anything to still live in San Diego and have access to such wonderful Mexican food. You don't know or appreciate what you have until it's gone - that's for sure. Ciao!

I've been a regular customer since 1962, everyone that makes tamales in my family(9 sisters,mother,4 aunts,& 2 daughters)buy their masa;they've got the best texture and flavor of any other maker.
