My friend and I ate a meal here last Friday in the early evening. It seemed moderately busy, but noticing all the employees with apparently nothing to do but group together and chat, it wasn't that busy. There was no music playing. We both ordered sandwiches. I was amazed at the expensive prices for sandwiches. (Around $10. - $15.) There was a container of pickles on the table. My friend tried one and said it was very salty. Maybe it's to keep down the bacteria, but who needs that much sodium? When my friend took the first bite of his sandwich, he winced. His lip actually broke open and started bleeding from the hard rye bread. My rye bread was stale too. There was nothing added to his brisket sandwich. Just the meat thrown on the stale bread. He usually likes drier potato salad, but his was so dry, that he added some mustard that was available. I just ate some of the meat out of my sandwich. My three bean salad looked a bit gray as if it had fermented too long, but it tasted okay. My friend ordered Dr. Pepper, but was served some kind of diluted version of Diet Coke(?) Still, our waitress did a better than average job, and that's the only reason I'm giving two stars rather than one. DZ Akins needs a complete overhaul. Improve the food and atmosphere; cut down on the useless employees. If anybody writes a glowing review that is general, without any details, please be aware that it must be those with ties to the restaurant.

Read the reviews and had to give it a try... soooo glad I did! This place rocks! So much food and all of it was delicious. I got the Ruben sandwich the best soup ever... I think its called Matza Soup. Yum. Plus everyone was so nice... great place for people watching.

Not a bad place...the food is okay and the atmosphere relaxed. I went there today with my children to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I thought it a bit presumptuous that the waitress added an 18% tip when the food took so long to arrive and she wasn't very attentive. We enjoyed each other and that is the most important part! I give the place a 8 on a scale of 10.
