Company Information: Consistently voted best gay bar this is one of the most popular clubs in San Diego. The club celebrates alternative lifestyles and caters to upscale men who do not mind spending a little extra for the memorable environment. The decor is reminiscent of a hot club in New Orleans. Most of the folks who frequent this spot enjoy casual conversation, singing fun songs along with the piano and sipping cocktails. Expect particularly large crowds on Friday and Saturday nights.

Response to pikocam: Drinks are a little expensive, but not compared to pretty much every other club in San Diego, and I've found that tipping the bartender well can have its perks. There have been nights when a bartender has knocked $10 off my tab at the end of the night. There are a couple of bouncers who've had their jobs go to their heads and constantly act like jerks, but the rest of the staff is very cool. With regard to waiting in line when it's not very busy: first of all, the line usually goes pretty fast, but the reason they do it is not to make it "look busy" (most bars do it for that reason). They leave a line out front because they got in trouble with the fire marshall about a year ago for exceeding the bar's capacity. The line makes it appear as if they're keeping tabs on the numbers in case the fire marshall checks in. Bourbon Street is great as a quiet neighborhood bar on the weekdays, and an exciting place to meet new people on the weekends.
Used to be cool. Now overcrowded with scenesters.: Things have slowly gone downhill here. Drinks are overpriced and weak. The crowd tends to range from obnoxious to pretentious. It wasn't like this even 2-3 years ago. The original owners sold out to some corporation and it shows. Most of the staff are rude and condescending. Now you'll find big tobacco pushing their death on their patrons. And they purposely make you wait in line on weekends, just to make it "look" like they're busy. Avoid this place, unless any of the above mentioned caters to you.
I like friday nights here.: I like going to Bourbon on Friday nights, it seems to have more a female friendly atmosphere. The guys are nice too, but for myself I go to people watch and hopefully meet new friends. Drinks are reasonable, there is a pool table, but the best time so far there was on Marde Gras. Vibe was great, people were great. Always have a pretty good time. Good time most of the time.
