Let me begin by saying I am sort of a snob when it comes to food. And the company I keep is equally pretentious (weâre from LA â you do the math). I donât eat out often, but when I do, I like to have a good meal.
My group and I found ourselves staying in Brawley for a night and we wanted to go out for a celebratory good meal. Online search results were slim to none. And then we stumbled upon Assaggio Italian restaurant. The website referred to itself as fine dining, and being the jerks that we are, we had a good laugh. But, since our options were truly few, we begrudgingly made a reservation for 10, snickering under our breaths as we walked in.
We sampled food from all over the menu â from the veal piccata to the lasagna to cheese ravioli to fettuccini with sausage and meatballs. Our waitress, Lorraine, was prompt and friendly and we were all surprised when she came to the table with our food: referring to the portions as âheartyâ would be a gross misnomer, they were huge. All of our meals were really well made and delicious. The wine list was a little less than desirable, but the wines they did have in stock were fine. Finally, at the end of the meal, we had homemade tiramisu, which was soft and creamy and equally as good.
Anyway, we owe an apology to Assiaggio. Great food, very reasonably priced and friendly staff. Eat there.
Excellent food!! Everything is very fresh and is home-made! The mozzerela sticks are the best I've ever tasted. Who needs the Olive Garden, this is much better!!!
"Very friendly staff and the food is excellent as is the service!!"
