| About: | Just outside of the Palm Canyon district, this classic restaurant earned Zagat Guide's "Best Restaurant in the Valley" designation. Most guests prefer to dine on the flower-filled, tree-shaded patio, which is heated or cooled to suit the season. While the food is billed as "Mediterranean French California Cuisine," the French influence prevails. The menu features Pate de Foie Gras, Fish baked with Dijon Mustard Mousseline, and Grilled Veal. Most entrees are in the USD28-38 range. Special requests can be accommodated with one day's notice. |

We were very disappointed by the lack of customer service provided by wait staff and owners on Christmas. Our dinner was interruped by high winds and we had to move indoors. At no time did the staff or owners offer us another entree or side dishes to replace what was unfinished. At $70.00 per person, they should have made every effort to take care of us. No consideration for our unfinished dinner was noted in our bill.
In fact, the owner response was, "It was an act of nature, not our fault."
Good food is only as good as what one gets to eat, and in this case a salad - part of an entree and dessert does not add up to outstanding. It was a Christmas dinner worth forgetting. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the area where the customer comes first.
my wife and i have been taking our guests from around the nation to le vallauris for years. while sometimes the front desk can be a little sloppy, once you are at your table the service ,food, wine are consistently the best in the desert, whatever is on the blackboard is alwaysgreat, from fish to fowl, and their tarte tatin is one of the best in the state. ask for a table in the courtyard on a nice nite.
My husband and I had dinner at Le Vallauris the last week of December 2007 while on vacation. We chose this restaurant because it came highly rated and we wanted a private, romantic dinner. Unfortunately that did not happen.
When we arrived we were sat in a huge room with large tables packed full. Each table had two newborn infants and it was obvious that all the people sitting at these tables were family. So, it was a large family gathering...with us in the middle. My husband and I had to sit side by side facing out toward the room. We felt we were staring at these people, and they too felt uncomfortable (they spoke to us later).
Because of the mess of the room, my husband and I asked not once, not twice but four times to be moved. I'm a business owner of a large company and when a customer is uncomfortable or unsatisfied for good reason I bend over backward to make it right. Each person we asked told us no. Not allowed. There were many tables available, but with more than two chairs. It was obvious that we were not going to be moved just because we had only two people, nevermind that we were miserable.
To top off our evening, I got up to use the restroom. Mind you, my normal experience in an upscale restaurant is that if one of the wait staff sees you walking by, they allow you to pass before moving in front of you. Not so at this restaurant. As I was returning to my seat, one of the wait staff flew by me in such a hurry that he bumped my shoulder and I fell over into another customer sitting at a nearby table. Not so much as an 'excuse me' or 'pardon me' from the waiter. He also didn't stop to see if I was OK.
As we were leaving, we spoke with the family sitting at the various tables around us. They apologized for all the noise and distractions from the babies. They were told by Le Vallauris restaurant when making their reservation that they would have a private room. Shame.
The food was good. The wait staff and customer service is something entirely different. Don't go! I don't want others to experience a complete waste of money as I have.
