Went to Mama Carpinos for my husbands birthday. There were several tables empty, no one else waiting, but were told it would be about 15 mnts and we could wait in the bar. Tricky, just to get us to buy overpriced drinks. When we get a table we are given menus, so dirty I didnt want to touch them, with food even stuck on the pages. Not a single dish for under $12.00 and that includes plain old spagetti with sauce. Fried green tomatoes were cut so thin and heavily breaded, you couldnt even taste the tomatoes. Calamari breading had no taste at all. Just a flour taste. Lets face it, pasta is cheap so I expected to get quit a bit, but when my husband was done with his small amount of linguini, he had all the clams still in the bowl. I just had soup and salad, how can u mess that up right? I had a romaine stem salad. Three small pieces of green in my salad and the rest all white romain stems. You don't have to be a food critic to know bad food when you get it. I along with many other people can do better in our own kitchens. Will we be going to this restaurant again...no way.
LOVE THE FOOD HERE. EXPECIALLY THE RAVIOLS!!! THERE THE BOMB. THE DRINKS ARE GREAT TOO, MY HUSBAND AND I AND ARE FRIENDS LOVE TO GO HERE AND HANGOUT. ITS THE BEST FOOD IN APPLE VALLEY
Three years ago, my husband and I, along with friends, traveled to Spain. We found a little Italian restaurant that was recommended by the Concierge at our hotel. Until that day, I liked the Olive Garden for Italian food. Oh, how things can change. REAL Italian food has so much more flavor, and it is very hard to find in the US... especially the High Desert. I was a frequent at DiNapoli's for years, as it was the freshest Italian around (I have NEVER been to the Italian Kitchen and hear it was once the best). When Mama Carpino's opened, my husband and I went to see how it fared (as Italian is my favorite). Our first experience wasn't the best. They were new to the game and things were still being figured out. When we went back about 3 months later, it was 10X better than the fist time. As more items were added to the menu, I would try new things. Some weren't my "cup o' tea" (not because they were prepared poorly, but I am not a fan of some types of sauces; pesto...) but most were very welcoming to my palate. We have been fair-weather patrons, but continue to return and are pleased with what we find. The renovation was very nice, as it gave us parking!!! The new renovations that they are planning look amazing. I can't wait. In fact, we're going there for dinner tonight! If you are a big fan of the Olive Garden, you should know it is nothing like that. It's better. Have a glass of the Lambrusco, enjoy the bread, and try the tiramisu... or the creme puffs!
