My friend and I arrived at about 10:30. From the outside, the place looked like a little antique window-shop, but I figured it must have something great to offer based on how crowded it was. We had to wait in a line for a bit, which is understandable because the place was packed. While in line, we heard a customer leaving who yelled at the guy who was checking IDs, "I just spent more than your salary!" Nice entertainment! Apparently the security there is fairly non-existent, because the ID-checking man called for back-up and a lean, small guy came out. What do you expect for a small, hole-in-the-wall place? Did I mention there was NO COVER charge?? Definite PLUS! :) Oh, and flip-flops, shorts, whatever is OK to wear! Another plus!
Once inside, we squeezed into a spot at the bar to get drinks. There was only 1 bartender, I guess the owner was trying to keep costs down so things are cheaper for the customers, which I don't mind. I just had to pretty much place myself directly in front of the bartender and extend my arm on the counter for him to realize I wanted drinks. The drink specials were $2 wells.
We went out back to the dancing patio. It was pretty cozy, like a backyard house party. The DJ had his equipment set up on a table that was covered with a white cloth. Above us hung a rotating disco ball. There were a couple plastic chairs and tables, nothing fancy. I thought all the brick walls and flooring gave an endearing look. Everyone was having fun, dancing, socializing, talking, being themselves. The DJ was rolling some really good jams....everything from modern music and hits like Paper Planes by MIA to older stuff like No Diggity.
So, we drank and danced the night away in good spirits, then at the last call announcement, I went to close out my tab. It was only $25 for 7 drinks! We had 2 tequila sunrises, 2 rum/cokes, a hypnotiq/7up, a long island tea, and a caramel apple martini. Much better than the $24 it cost for the 2 drinks I had at Club Aura Saturday!!!
See--this smaller place had more to offer than that bigger, flashier place. Here, at the Vault, I got a pleasant night with happy people, great music, fun environment, and 7 inexpensive drinks that allowed me to get my drink on! The total night cost $25. There, at Club Aura, I wasted $53 just to get into a shitty club, get 2 drinks, have to deal with rude people all night, and walk away in an awful, taken-advantage of, never-coming-back-again mood!
This place is pretty hit and miss. The other night they actually wanted us to wait in a line to get in because it was so packed. Unfortunatley large crowds arent always indicative of a good time to be had. Sometimes the crowd at the Vault is lively and the energy is great, other times it feels as though you've wandered in on a suicide pack meeting.
The outdoor "alley" is a neat place to have a drink if you can get over all the cigarette smoke, and pretentious emo types. Service is impressive considering the limited area the bartenders are working with, and the second bar really smoothes the process when it gets busy. The bouncer (the bearded one, if he's still there) is a jerk lacking even the most basic of social skills.
If your having a good time at another bar in Redlands dont waste your time walking up to the Vault, but if your bar seems dead it's worth the walk. That night it could turn out to be a hit.
nice place to relax: With several rooms and an outside courtyard, it is a great place to chill with some friends over a few drinks. The martini menu has lots of variety, and every one I tried was delicious.
