The first time I went in, my fuel pump on my '04 Passat had shorted out so I had to get it replaced. Also during that visit they said my timing belt was cracking so I had them replace it ($1,100 ouch). Luckily, the fuel pump was under my extended warranty, but they did a bad job and it didn't seal properly, so I had gas fumes in my car for a couple weeks until I could take it back.
When I went in for them to fix the fuel pump seal, I also requested an oil change. I was overdue for one, and I think they tried to take advantage of me because of it. The guy told me I needed to have my engine "de-sludged" and it would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $900. Well I was sick of paying them money so I said no and took it somewhere else for an oil change. Before leaving, however, the service guy tried to make it sound like my car was on the verge of engine failure and shouldn't be driven at all. He recommended that I get it towed to wherever I planned on taking it. I drove from Irvine to a shop in Fullerton with no problems.
Afterward, I did some research on engine sludge and decided that, if it was a problem, I could take care of it myself with more frequent oil changes for the next while. 1,000 miles after that oil change, I took it to a different VW dealership for an oil change and the guy didn't say anything about engine sludge. Go figure.
I think this dealership isn't very busy so they try to sell you unnecessary crap. I don't trust the service rep I worked with at Fladeboe. I prefer Commonwealth VW in Costa Mesa.
This place is a rip-off. My girlfriend went in there to get some warranty work done on her car and they pushed her into having them look at a light that they said was out. She told them to take care of it (as she shouldnât have done when dealing with mechanics). After she had already paid for it and brought it back for me to look at I found out that they had charged her $60 in labor (half an hour) and $8 in parts just to change one light bulb. I had done the same job on another bulb earlier and it only took me, someone with no VW experience, 20 minutes to do. This is just another typical scam to get unsuspecting people to pay for jobs that could easily be done by anyone.
This place is awesome. They get you in and out in a jiffy. They perform all services efficiently and update your vehicle with any recalls. The people are friendly and funny. Thanks for all your help Andy.
