My friends and I went there to study and we had studied for hours on the ground...due to the lack of furniture. We studied on the second floor on the balcony and since it was uncomfortable after studying there for several hours, we decided to take a five minute break by heading down stairs to buy a few drinks (down at Starbucks). We left our personal belongings (books, bags, etc.) and when we came back, our stuff was gone! The manager had apparently seized our belongings, throwing them into 2 large, plastic garbage bags. It was an insult. Our papers from our binders were thrown about and were trashed. We were asked to leave the store, but before doing so, the manager questioned if our belongings belonged to the store; the man implied that we had robbed the store of some sort of items. I have never had such a negative experience in ANY stores and Barnes and Noble of Bella Terra can be assured that none of us shall ever return to such a disrespectful environment. We'll remain loyal to Borders, thank you very much.
Good: I used to spend a lot of time in here, A LOT of time. They'e mostly helpful and calm. Occasional live performance and live reading is nice. I've never had any problems, and the couches are comfortable. Too be honest, i don't buy much here, but a lot of people come to study.
judging a book by its cover goes many ways...: I've usually had a good experience at this Barnes and Noble, except for a bad instance that stays in my mind. I wanted to buy a DVD but when I moved the DVD case it sounded like there were broken pieces inside. I wanted to make sure that the DVD inside wasn't broken. The customer service person said the manager authorized us to open it but I would be taking my chances. We opened it and sure enough it was in pieces. Then for some reason the clerk expected me to pay for it, telling me I took a chance and now I had to buy it. I looked at him like he was crazy and told him I was not about to pay 30 dollars for a broken DVD. He started yelling at me and telling me "thanks a lot, now you just screwed Barnes and Noble over". Excuse me? I never expected to be talked to like that by a Barnes and Noble employee! He said that he opened it with the understanding that I would buy it because we were opening it in the store. Huh? I asked him what would have happened if I had opened it at home and found it broken? He said they would have gladly taken it back, but since we opened it in the store then they would have to take a loss because of it. Poor Barnes and Noble! I'm sure taking a loss to ensure a customer got a good DVD really put them in the red! I have never been treated that way and if it weren't because it's the closest Barnes and Noble to my home I would probably never go back.
