Wow never go to this place unless you want to spend a lot of money for 3oz of food. I looked at the menu before hand and it seemed reasonable, but boy was I in for a surprise. The prices were regular prices, until the food came. My girlfriend ordered a salad and out came a little 3inch by 2inch block of salad and it was so nasty. It kinda looked like they took a frozen packages of spinach, defrosted it, cut it in thirds and put it on a plate. I ordered a sandwich which was 6 dollars, good price if I would have got a full sandwich. The sandwich was about half the size of my hand and drier than the Sahara desert. I think one dollar went towards the cost of the food and the other five went to the server to keep a straight face while they served the food. Lets not forget about the six dollar basket of fries that came with ketchup and mayonnaise. Of all the exotic dips and sauces they had on their menu, the fries came with ketchup and mayonnaise. The drinks had a good amount of alcohol in them, but not twelve dollars worth. All in all, 56 dollars later I was still hungry and not drunk, so basically I threw my money away.
Limited veg choices, but great quality: We ate at Uva Bar downstairs, which has a different menu than Catal. The service was excellent, and the iced tea was kickin' good. We had a appetizer with hummus, baba ganouch, and mouhamara. All three dips were delicious, especially the mouhamara, and additional pita bread was provided upon request.
The staff was completely willing to make adjustments to the food to make it Vegan. I got the penne pasta with basil and Roma tomatoes, which was simple but tasty. The chef made the flavor pop by adding in a bit of freshly cracked pepper.
The only thing preventing me from rating this restaurant 5 stars is that the vegetarian offerings are somewhat limited, and he price was a tad high from the perspective of someone from Idaho. Everything in Disneyland is expensive though, so the cost is not out of line with other restaurants in the area.
Great ambiance and service, but lack luster food.: First off, when you arrive, you need to know that the restaurant is split in half. When you walk up, the person taking names is only covering the list for the tables on the 1st floor. If you want to sit on the 2nd floor, you need to go up and put your name on another list. We ended up choosing the 2nd floor. The ambiance was great, large indoor seating areas and outdoor patio seating overlooking the crowds walking Downtown Disney. The disappointment was in the food. My wife ordered the filet which came out dry and overly well done. My prime rib (which is only offered on weekends) was tough and lacking flavor. The staff gladly replaced my wife's steak with another one which was better prepared. At the end of the meal, the manager gave us a free dessert (chocolate cake) to make up for the steak issue. Around 9:45pm we were able to catch a glimpse of the fireworks from Disneyland, so this was an added plus. Overall first impressions was not great, but I'm willing to give this place a second chance.
