I am glad that some people won't be coming back, this way I won't have to wait for a seat.. Born and raised in Ventura and have been going since I was kid. Now that I am 55 and have had most of the food around ventura, I say it is second to none. Romance? I took my wife there on our fist date back in 1970 and sat outside and we've been going on Jan 16 ever since. Okay in all those visits I have had some that were not the best but as with most fooderies things change when owners die or sell off and new people take the wheel.
The service at this restaurant was above average. My wife and I
tried this restaurant for the first time this weekend and we will
NEVER go back. We ordered carne asada burritos and the meat was
totally burned on one side. The so called chef tried to hide a
burn't piece of meat inside of a burrito did not go unnoticed. I
do not claim to be a chef but I do entertain many parties and this
piece of meat would be considered dog scraps in my house. I was angry when I left and paid the full price of my meal and a tip for good servive but I will Never go back.
Im Mexican American so traditionaly speaking I may be more versed than the regular client regarding the authentic taste and nature of Mexican Food. The ambience is the typical old mexico look, nothing bad or great, what you would expect. Service was fine hospitable, and pleasant. Now the serious talk their food or lack thereof. I was told by a customer that they had the best beans in the busines. If youre idead of re-fried beans coming straight from a lard can is yourr idea of tasty then good for you. Their tacos lacked any sesne of taste, bland and terrible. Their fajita plate was recommended but had a charbroiled tast that was on the burnded end of things. I very much doubt I will ever return to this place. Truly one of the worst Mexican food places I've ever eaten at. Very, very disappointed.

They don't use lard for their beans. They are cooked with canola oil (I think). That sucks you had a bad experience. In my opinion they have some of the best/ most authentic mexican food in southern california.
