Smiths Bakeries Decoration Dept

I walked in the bakery is such a good place, happy to be a child of god, I went up to counter and saw two women one on the phone wit her back turned to the public and the other helping the person infront of me. I was not yet through looking at the product so I allowed the two other customer to go ahead of me. As the clerk was ringing up the customer and giving them their change I asked about the wedding cakes. The look I got from the clerk was startling, I expected a warm inviting welcome being that I just displayed an act of politness to their other clients, but to my dismay the clerk was so very short and rude to me and my family. My daughter was getting heated as each question I asked and I was answered with such a dismissing adittude. I continue to handle the young lady with the respect we all deserved quietly saying to myself "I will never come here again". I did not need any of the items I was inquring about, I am a cake decorator myself, researching bakeries here in Bakersfield trying to get plugged in. I have been here in this town for all of 4 months, so I am still trying to understand how things work around here. Well the behavoir of this young lady kind of somes up the whole atmisphere in this small county. I'm so dishearten I am a firm beleiver in the golden rule. I am kind in nature and I have a good out look on things. I believe kindness is contagious, and if you display it long enough people around you are going to catch it. But just not here in this town. We are in a state were our enconomy is at all time slump and consumers are seeking comfort in small things, like family and food. A good bakery with excellent customer service skills can survive these time and do okay. But now is the time to really take care of your customers make them feel that their money and business is well appreciate. Empathy goes along way. After all we are going through trying times. If local businesses want loyalty they have to earn it. Smith's Bakery has an excellent "APPLE CINNAMON BREAD". Talk about comfort, it was a little warmth that I gave to my family on a Saturday morning. The loaf of bread was not cheap for an out of work single mother , about $6.00 a loaf. But we all enjoyed the treat including by 77yr. old mother and 2yr. old granddaughter. It is a shame will not be returning to the bakery, the product is wonderfully fresh and delicious. But I cannot see myself spending my money in a place that would treat me so badly. I'm sure I can make that same bread if I cannot find it elsewhere. "Smith's Bakery on Union Ave.", if you are like me wanting the most for your money this is not the place to get it.

Simply The Best There Is: I grew up in Bakersfield with Smith's cakes for birthdays and their decorated cookies for special treats so I never realized how truly wonderful they were until I moved away. My wife was convinced a local bay area bakery had outstanding cakes and cookies until I introduced her to Smith's.... and one taste changed her mind! Now we make a special trip through Bakersfield when we go anywhere near there just for the cookies - and we always order them by phone just so we don't take the chance of them running out before we get there. We even try to arrange for a birthday cake now and then too if we can schedule a trip at the right time.
You won't know how special this bakery is until you try it. Quite simply put... Smith's makes the best cakes and cookies I've ever tasted and I can't imagine anyone ever surpassing them! They're the best!!!
