My husband I are visiting Bakersfield on a business trip and each night we get to choose a place to eat tonight was my turn and I chose Bill Lee's. The atmosphere was nice, quiet with subdued lighting and we sat in a comfortable booth. Before we got our water we were served a pot of hot tea which was lovely and so very good. Next came our drinks which were also extremely good. We ordered an appetizer tray, the House Specialty and the Lobster Que. Everything was just delicious. This was the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. We had so much left over we are going to dine in fine style for lunch tomorrow. I went in tired after a long day and came out as a fat happy buddah. The prices were very reasonable which made my husband a happier buddah - lol. I've got to get that recipe for the Lobster Que from them - it is beyond good.
I have eat their for 43 years.Always the best quality food and service.Thank you guys and gals.
Eventually all roads will lead through Bill Lee's at one point in time if you live in Bakersfield
My dinner date and I went to celebrate a birthday. From her apartment to Bill Lee's in 5 minutes flat - it's pretty close to everybody being centrally located downtown so it's not a problem and there was stuff to do afterwards downtown so it worked well. Parking was super easy and we were greeted by the hostess who came out to open the outer door to the restaurant. Nice touch.
Interior is modern and spacious. For a place that's been open for 70 plus years, it looks very up to date (it's been remodeled a number of times and constantly improving). There's a chic cocktail lounge/bar to the right and a front and back dining room. The atmosphere is casual, family-friendly but still nice to go for a couple if you desire. In the back room, we sat against the wall and saw some nice chinese artwork and panels. A good place if you wanted to have a nice conversation with your dinner date or guests.
After listening to our helpful waiter and flipping through the menu, we opted on two appetizers and three main entrees. The appetizers were too tempting to pass up. Potstickers were great. Sauce is great. Fried shrimp were golden and crispy, very tender. My favorite appetizer.
The Mongolian Beef was a 10/10, I liked it's sauce. The cantonese chow mein with chicken was very nicely done, with vegetables, meat, etc. Finally, we had the lobster que, my favorite main dish.
The service was great. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, provided great recommendations.
