I took my van in to have the check engine light turned off to pass smog. Well he turned it off and smogged it to only have the light come back on the next day. I turned it off with a tool from Kragen myself and it came back on in three days. He charged me $200. I want my money back...

Same here. Rude doesn't even cover it. But the bigger issue was not honoring the coupon in the money saver packets. The coupon for doesn't specify that it only covers certain cars and not trucks for the $35 oil change and filter. Demanding cash only transactions makes me extremely uncomfortable. What are they trying to pull here?

I called the money saver and asked them if they knew what was going on and they assured me they'd had no complaints on this company. Pft! I sent them here! Hopefully they'll get wise and remove Smith Automotive from their book. Either way, stay away from Smith Automotive! The rest of the Central Coast is!

Smith's auto had a coupon for a $30 oil/lube/filter. I called ahead, and he told me to come on in. I showed with coupon in hand, and he immediately told me cash only. I returned later from ATM, and after a while, he wouldn't honor his price. In fact, the $30 oil/filter turned into $85!!! Fifty five dollars more than quoted. He even admitted that he didn't put any restrictions in his ad. This is a common, mass produced ad, not a one-time flyer.
This is not an exotic vehicle. Oil change was for my Toyota Tundra!
Rude, yes. I don't care if my mechanic is rude. But false advertising coupons, and demanding cash transactions, then refusing to do anything, not acceptable, and unethical, and likely illegal. (the false advertising part)
It should probably go without saying, that I'll never bring him business again, and would not advise anyone to do so. But that seems to be a common theme here regardless.
