We were early; they were empty. We sat ourselves in a musty booth that looked and smelled of moldy ship. We traced the sent to a wet section of the ship rope decor hanging in our booth. and then moved to a booth closer to the wood stove.
My husband loved his meal, a buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese. I had halibut with an "Asian" slaw and couldn't eat it. The dressing was like jam, way too sweet. The clam chowder, however, was tasty.
Fantastic food. Great service and the BEST calimari on the west coast. The upstairs bar and snack area has a great view and is good but for the best service the downstairs dining room can't be beat. We have consumed more raw oysters, oysters rockefeller, calamari and clams as appitizers than we care to remember. The main menu is fantastic as well. After consuming the appitizers we asked to split the main course. The main course was apparently split in the kitchen and served on individual plates and was more than we could eat. The service was fantasic, friendly and professional. We have treated guests to Gladstones in Malibu but if time allows we drive 4 hours to go to Schooners. Cayucos is a cute town. If you stay in the area of Schooners everything fun is within walking distance, the beach, warf, hotel, antique shopping and the turn of the century bar are all to be experienced. We stayed at the Shorline hotel which we highly recommend.
