The two women working there were surly and apparently did not want to be servicing customers. A large party came in after me as I was waiting to be seated and decided not to wait as the place was packed. One of the women working there came after them as they were leaving and they told her they'd go elsewhere as the place looked busy. The waitress informed them is a very condensending tone that "this is a seasonal town and all the restaurants would be busy". That should have been my first indication that I should have run away!

When we were seated, there were a couple of flies buzzing around our table, the silverware looked dirty and when my ice tea was brought, there was a hair stuck to the lemon. When we told our waitress about the conditions and that we'd just pay for our drinks and that we didn't want to order, she gave us a dirty look and walked away. Since she didn't bring us a bill, we left money on the table and walked out.

Wouldn't eat there on a bet - Recommendation: STAY AWAY !

    AWFUL FOOD,AWFUL SERVICE,VERY EXPENSIVE!
WE had dinner there in feb 2009.
It was horrible, dead meat and canned peas. This awful dinner for 2 cost 34$.The service was horrible. They dont speak much english and they dont take credit cards!!!This place used to be decent but when they changed owners and the name it went downhill fast. This place must have done something really bad to lose their ability to process credit cards-think about it...Avoid at all costs.
I would recommend the merry go round restaurant down the street which serves good food and is about the same price.I would suggest mt whitney rest. for breakfast omelettes.
Surprisingly, bad food and service and stiff prices is what you get at most places in owens valley. In bishop the only place worth eating is at whiskey creek. If you cant afford that go to kfc.Honestly.

Great eats!: High Sierra Cafe (formally known as PJ's Cafe) is one of our favorites. It is right at the foot of the Mt. Whitney portal. The food and coffee are good. The view out the window is Main street with the Sierra mountains in the background in stunning. The name High Sierra incidently, is likely to a reference to the famed movie with the same name shot in the nearby Alabama Hills (staring Humphrey Bogart, 1941).
