When we started asking around there was only two places in Shaver Lake that served good steaks The Trading Post and allegedly Trappers at the point. We chose Trappers because it was reported to seat bigger groups. When we walked into Trappers the atmosphere was OK just OK, we then stood by the cash register and watched for almost twenty minutes as the waitress/ receptionist walked past us several times without one word or even a look of acknowledgment while she served the few tables that were occupied and talked with a few locals in the bar. Finally the cook showed some compassion and came out and asked if we had reservations, which we did not because the individual that we talked to when we called did not mention we needed one. He then looked around at the empty dining area and sheepishly offered the excuse that they were really booked tonight. We looked behind us and there wasn't another potential patron in site but got the picture none the less. We were not wanted!!! While perturbed at the time, in retrospect, it was the best thing that could have happened to us. If the service started out that way imagine how it would have evolved through the evening. So with fingers crossed we decided to try The Trading Post, and thank God we did. We were immediately greeted by a friendly face with a smile saying that it would be a wait, no problem, and that they were busy and service might be a little slow. Ten minutes later our party of ten was seated and drinks were on the table. GOOD drinks!!! The atmosphere was nostalgic and reminded me of sitting at a friends house for dinner. The service was excellent which produced a much deserved 25% tip for our waiter and the food was incredible. The New York didn't even need A-1 sauce. Overall I have to give The Trading Post an A+ and would highly recommend them to anyone. It wasn't just dinner it was an experience.
