I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner, and it sure was a sorry choice! First, the restaurant was nearly empty, but it took forever for a server to acknowlege us. Finally a waiter did come by to take our order, but he had a rude attitude - like he thought we were too poor or not classy enough for his restaurant. When our mixed appetizer plate arrived, it looked pretty but the appetizers were VERY salty and oily in texture.
The appitzer plate was a highlight compared to the entrees however. My boyfriend had the pork chop which was WAY to thick in cut - gummy pink in the center and it smelled VERY gamey. I had the corn soup and it was unappetizing in color (grey) and had a rancid taste - no fresh corn flavor here!
However, the iced tea was delicious. I would not consider coming back to dine here again, but I might purchase an iced tea again. All in all, even with the poor flavor of the pricy food, the service was even worse and I specifically would not return to a place where the waiter acts like he is pained to wait on you.
I liked this place and the name and food were both very good!! I will be back for show!!!
My first visit to Stokes was excellent in all aspects.
So I chose the place for a celebration, which did not go well at all. I checked their menu online, call to confirm the menu, but when I got there everything was wrong: the website was outdated and whoever answered the phone was uninformed. To cap the experience, the manager refused to honor the information provided online and by the phone.
Don't expect good service there. There are many better options in Monterey.
