A pretty good restaurant consider its location (that's why I'm giving 4 stars). Sashimi is fresh and reasonable size. We ordered Sashimi and ramen. The ramen tastes more like Korean noodle than Japanese. If you're from SF Bay Area and looking for a decent Japanese restaurant in old town Salinas, this is the one.
The dinner menu at this restaurant is unlike any other. There are pictures of different types of sushi in the centerfold. I tried the Texas Holdem which is a roll with rib-eye steak, cream cheese, asparagus, a yummy sauce, and of course rice and seaweed. Like I said, a unique menu, but the sushi is tasty.
If your wanting to have lunch here, don't go on Saturday or Sunday. Since they are open all day, they only offer the dinner menu. Also, to save 15% on your meal, don't sit at the bar; they charge the extra percentage for the sushi chef.
Since I went for lunch and had to order from the dinner menu, the food seemed a bit pricey - $14-16 for a Bento Box. The Bento Boxes are neat because you get to choose which three items you want besides the salad, rice, and soup which are included with all boxes. I don't know what the lunch prices are, but you get less food than what is served from the dinner menu. I had leftovers from my chicken teriyaki box - enough for my dinner tonight.
I order ice tea almost everywhere I go, so I have to include this - it's okay, big glass.
Our favorite restaurant in Salinas. The sushi is amazing whether you eat in the retaurant or carry it out. We usually eat at Ikebana's at least once every two weeks. Oishii!!!
