| About: | Located in a quaint little cottage, this English tearoom has gone through many incarnations over a period of nearly 80 years. The menu is breakfast and lunch; mostly featuring omelets, eggs, salads and sandwiches, all of which perfectly complement the wide variety of teas. The house also markets its own brands of cereals, preserves and scones, all of which are very affordable. It is a very nice little place with recipes in constant use since the 1940s. The service is very attentive and friendly. No credit cards accepted. |

After reading many reviews i could not wait to go there but sadly after going there to enjoy breakfast we were left standing there for quite some time before being greeted. After being showed to our table our server went to visit the "water closet" which was located approx. four feet from our table. I'm not sure if she ate the food there or some place else but the sound of her constant flatulence left anything but a nice taste in my mouth or that of my family. After she exited the water closet the smell that came out of that small room smelled like something had crawled up inside her body and died. Not quite sure who had come up with that great idea of having a bathroom located just a few feet from where your eating but the person who designed it has never had the pleasure of eating there. The portions of food there were rediculous for what we were charged and we ended up leaving the place hungry. The silverware and glasses had water spots all over them and gave the impression that cleanliness is not at the top of their list. We will never visit there again.
I remember coming to this charming place years and years ago. I rediscovered it about a year ago and was so disappointed. I gave it another go this past weekend and it was no better. The food was okay, but to be honest, I barely remember it because the poor service overshadowed it and made for such an unpleasant lunch. The waitresses look positively miserable and are downright surly. No greeting, nothing. They act like you're an annoyance. Also, the place was dirty. My food came on a dirty plate; when I told the waitress, she just picked it up and took it back to the kitchen without a word. Never said "sorry about that" or anything. My spoon had clearly had not been washed from the previous customer and the communal jam jars on the table were gross. I kept having to continually dip my napkin in water to wash my hands throughout our meal. They really need to turn over their staff. We vowed not to return.
This is the most adorable restaurant! It's a cute little cottage. Not very big, but that keeps it very quiant. The scones are delicious. You can eat healthy there if you desire. It's a must-see and must-eat!
