Belive it or not, but we stood at the front door waiting to be seated. We finally walked over to the hostes who was on the other side of the room and asked " Do we need to comer over to you to be seated? She said yes and I said you didn't see us standing there waiting to be seated? She said yes" we got seated and ordered our food which sounded good on the menu, then we seen the server picking bread bowls up from other tables, throwing away eaten rolls and mixing them in with others and taking them to other tables. We got up and left! Don't believe me, see it for your self and take that chance.
Monterey Vacation with my Husband and Parents: We were walking along the beach to the Wharf and asked a local walking her dog, if she knew of a great restaurant on the Wharf and she pointed to Monterey's Fish House, which so happen to be across the street, pretty small pink restaurant. (So meant to be) We waited about 15 to 20 minutes, worth the wait. The food was awesome, and our waiter Carlos was great. We loved our food (I had the salmon with vegetables, my Husband had pasta with seafood, and my parents also had one of their fishes with vegetables as well). We can't wait to go back to Monterey just to eat there. BTW ~ We ate at Domenico's on the Wharf the next day, no comparing and the gratuity was added to the bill and it was just 4 of us?
I am a local and dine at this restaurant a couple of times a year. No more.
Here is my experience. I sat at the bar and while ordering asked the bartender if the salad was organic. In the past, it has not been organic but I have been hoping that they would eventually begin offering organic salad. Itâs available from purveyors 52 weeks out of the year now and is only priced slightly higher than conventional. He said, âWhatâs organic?â I said to him, âyouâre in the restaurant business and donât know what organic is? Many of your competitors here in Monterey serve organic salads---you should know what organic is.â
I asked if the Salmon was wild or farmed. He said that it was farmed, so I opted for the Snapper that he indicated was wild. However, by now his credibility was clearly in question.
About a quarter of the way through my side dish of penne pasta, I noticed something shiny staring at me. Popping out of one of the penne pasta shells was a very large piece of curly-Q steel wool. I put it on a side plate and brought this to the attention of the bartender and he nonchalantly said that it âmust have got in there when they were cleaning the pots and they left it in there. It happens some timeâ. He quickly pulled the piece off the side dish and threw it away. I told him he should bring it to the attention of the manager and inspect the pot so that this doesnât happen to somebody else tonight or in the future. He didnât speak to anyone and continued doing his work behind the bar. I told him I no longer had an appetite and he boxed the food up for me and presented me with my bill for $32.59.
No offer to replace the meal. No offer to compensate me in any way. Not even an apology. Absolutely no acknowledgement of any wrong doing. I was astonished.
Where something like this has happened to me in the past elsewhere, the company has apologized profusely, given me a coupon, refunded my purchase, etc. without me even asking and I become a customer for life.
I happen to be a business owner and I know how difficult it is to run a business. This company is clearly not educating their employees in customer service.
Look, Iâm not out for any money. Iâm not an attorney and I donât plan to sue this company. Rather than make a scene at the restaurant, I felt that the best way for me to make the restaurant responsible for their actions was for me to make my experience available to as many of their customers and potential customers as possible, thus this review.

As a business owner you should know to speak to the manager and not complain here because you received bad service from a... BARTENDER. What's he gonna know about organic salad or wild salmon? He knows what's good to drink.
