The Guild: a true movie theater's theater: The Guild is my favorite place to see a movie in the Peninsula for a few reasons. First, it's a single show movie house that provides an intimate viewing environment, offering a pleasant departure from the megalopolis multi-screen theaters we're all used to. Second, they keep Junior Mints in the freezer which is great for candy connoisseurs since the cold factor reduces quick meltage. Third, the place has tons of throwback charm thanks in part to the art deco lights above your head that are worth checking out before they're dimmed. Fourth, they always get the best indi flicks.
Great theater for obscure movies: Of the indie theaters in the area, the Guild is the most indie. The movies are generally the ones that theater goers at the Aquarius or CineArts theaters would have heard of, but couldn't quite tell you what it was about. Like Aquarius, the theater and seats are small and the sound isn't tremendous, but the theater itself is beautifully decorated.
