Great Price, Great Location, Clean and Comfortable: I searched high and low for a reasonably priced motel during my move to the Monterey Bay area. Due to it's tourist population, there are several hundred motels and hotels to select from. Knowing I would be spending at least 15 nights, money was of course paramount to my decision. After spending hours searching and calling motels, I found this little place. With only 17 units, they are small, but the attention to detail and cleanliness are without comparison. My room was cleaned EVERY DAY, versus the big chains that you only get 2 or even three day cleaning service. The rooms are not huge, but they are well appointed, with a refrigerator, microwave, cable TV, and FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET!!! The Internet alone is a $10 a day savings from most of the major chains. And even better, you can walk to the beach, walk to the grocery store, or walk to Starbucks in the morning.

OK, price-wise, I spent $49 for a weeknight, and $85 for Friday and Saturday. This compares with an average summer weeknight being around $100 for any chain motel/hotel, and $150 for a weekend night. Compared to the rest of the area, I saved between $500-$1000 during my two week stay. One of the secrets to this area I learned is that they tax out-of-towners with a transient tax on hotel rooms. It is something like 10%, so when you search online for hotels make sure to add this to your price. Personally I think it is highway robbery.

Location wise, the Seaside Inn is located right off Hwy 1, at the Fremont Street exit. So, getting on and off the freeway is easy. And, you are only 10 minutes from downtown Monterey (straight down Del Monte Avenue). There is fast food and restaurants nearby, along with grocery stores and gas stations.

I am not one to leave these reviews very often. But this place blew me away. My room was cleaned everyday, with fresh towels and all. The staff was very courteous, and when the Internet went down, the manager immediately sprang into action and spent $300 getting it fixed just for me. They have an iron at the front desk, and all the rooms have ironing boards, and clothes hangers.

OK, downside, no pool, not huge, and parking can be a little tricky in their small lot. BUT, if you want to spend your money on whale watching, or winery hopping, and have a clean cozy room to come back too, I would suggest you stop here.

They also accept all major plastic like any good motel should. So, leave the big chains to do their thing, and spend your money enjoying yourself eating and sightseeing, instead of blowing it on your hotel room.

Oh, and these people are kid friendly too.
