Our dinner reservations were @ 8pm, got there 8 minutes early & stood there while the waiter & 2 little waitresses passed us by more than twice - & it was only the waiter that greeted us....once. Two tables were open, but being a Saturday night, we didn't know if one of the tables was for my bf & I, so we waited. At 8:03pm, 13 minutes later, we were seated.
It took another 5 minutes for someone to ask us for our drinks, meanwhile, the table next to us (party of 5), who were seated promptly, were asked their drinks immediately. We also had to ask our waitress twice for chopsticks. My bf also asked for water & we NEVER got it. On top of that, I ordered a spider roll and also NEVER received it because our waitress mixed our order up and gave us some kind of fried tuna roll. Hmmm, spider roll doesn't sound anything near as fried tuna roll, does it?? During our dinner, my bf asked for my spider roll & our waitress said it was coming. Uh, negative!
I also timed to see how long other people were greeted AND seated - less than 2 minutes. It took us 3x to get our check and more than 10 minutes to FINALLY receive it. You think our waitress got a tip? HELL f*&%in NO! I left a penny because 1) we didn't get our water 2)she mixed up our order 3)didn't bother to check on us to see if we wanted anything after we received our order & 4)it took more than 10 minutes to get us seated while everyone else that walked in were greeted and seated promptly.
What irks me more is that this restaurant made me feel like I was a 2nd class citizen, being of asian decent, with a caucasian bf. The entire restaurant was practically filled with caucasian people, which I honestly don't have ANY problem with. I think it was watching the little waitress run up to other patrons to seat them after us that raised my blood pressure & completely ignoring us.
I do have to say there was an asian couple seated next to us & I don't know if they had any problems, but I did observe that they were there for quite some time. Slowly enjoying their meal? =)~
So, I don't know if it's because my bf and I were in an interracial relationship or what, because we've been there twice before and didn't have a problem until tonight. WOW! I mean, the 2 little waitresses were totally catering to the caucasian people like they were saints, it was unbelievable! Even my bf was annoyed that the service was so bad and he frequents the place during his lunch hour as his workplace is close by. WTF?! This isn't the 40's/50's anymore! Just because I "look" ethnic, don't automatically ASSUME that I don't speak Engrish (and I mean that in THE most sarcastic way possible!!).
I've NEVER had such POOR service at a Japanese restaurant until today. You can bet that I won't set foot in this restaurant again!
great sushi: What a great restaurant! A friend turned me onto this place recently. The sushi is fresh and absolutely tasty. I'm not a big sushi expert but this was definitely better than some of the places I have been to.
The decorations and atmosphere are all pretty good. Definitely a place you can take a date for a nice meal.
We sat in the front area where you get to sit on the floor. That was nice because it was away from everyone else.
The best sushi we have ever had.: Terrific food. The combinations of flavors in the individual orders of sushi were innovative, complex and terrific.
And the interior is very nifty. The many Indonesian architectural pieces were integrated into the interior. This made for something one almost never sees in a sushi restaurant: cool and funky while being relatively upscale. Not slick and not homemade. Just cool. The downside is the tabletops. They are large masses of very interesting, but extremely uneven, rock. Setting down drinks and even soy sauce bowls can be a challenge.
Also the server had no idea of the items on the menu. She didn't know what "on tap" was. She couldn't answer basic questions about the sake.
