Incredible banquet food: We recently held our 5-day annual conference at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay. I've been a meeting & events planner for nearly 15 years and I must say that I have never had such excellent food when feeding masses in my career. We had two banquets for about 225 people and each of my plates tasted as if it was prepared for me individually. It did not taste as though the meal was made en masse for 200 people. I am simply amazed and so are the attendees of the conference with the quality of food. I don't know how they do it, but they do it so above average. The Ritz @ Half Moon Bay made me look like a super star!
Perennially extraordinarily fine.: I have been going to Ritz restaurants now for about 25 years. From Montreal to Chicago to Half Moon Bay, they never fail to please. (After attending culinary school, I taught privately in the Chicago area.)
We had lunch there on December 2, 2006. The appetizer was a Dungeness crab cake that was actually about 95% crab! It was wonderful. We then shared the east coast scallops and pork tenderloin with chanterelles, finishing off with the molten chocolate cake. Everything was prepared and cooked perfectly.
The only critique I have is that the last time I was there for lunch (about 4 years ago) the uniforms of the wait staff were superior. The uniforms now are rather 'seedy' looking. The service is still excellent and the food very superior but the uniforms add to the ambience and could be just a wee bit nicer.
great views, unique presentation: my gf and i ordered the cote de boeuf for two, essentially a big bone-in ribeye that's carved up into medallions and served family-style with a side of brussel spouts (with bacon!) and sweet potatoes. the meat is also served with a side of sauce and sea salt. the food was quite good, especially after my less-than-stellar experience at nearby cetrella the night before. the food is certainly expensive, as is the hotel, and not up to par with the greats like michael minna or gary danko, but still quite good.
