This is one of the best places in California for pizza.
I'm no pizza expert, but the pizza was delicious, awesome tasty crust, great sauce, stretchy cheese… mmmm…..enough said… I highly recommend this place!!!

How good IS Toto's in San Bruno?

Put it this way: Whenever I'm back in the Bay Area visiting my old stomping grounds (I was born in the City and grew up in Millbrae), I ALWAYS begin the drive back by stopping at Toto's and geting an extra-large pie.

And I drive the 400 miles back to LA with the pizza riding shotgun. By tradition, I don't touch--not so much as pulling off a pepperoni slice--it until I get it inside the door of my house.

    Yeah. It's THAT good.

OK here's the deal. Our Filipino family has been eating Toto's Pizza in Daly City since the 60's till it closed in 1999. We started in Daly City and from time to time went to San Bruno (the old Minni Pearl's Fried Chicken joint) really dating myself here:-) But if you close your eyes and you'd think you just got the pie from the old DC location. Flavor did not change nor did the SIZE of the pies! THANK YOU!!!! Same goes for the Belmont and San Mateo locations!

When we moved across The Bay to So. Alameda county we still drove to DC for a the BEST pizza around. As times go on and we get older, the trips to Toto's get less frequent. When I was told that they were closing the Daly City location I made it a point to be there.

I was told on the day it was to close that it was actully a day later. I called that day to find out what time the doors were to close tomorrow. They said 9pm tonight. It was 7 pm and I was almost 100 miles away!!

I left work early, hopped into my 63 Cadillac and got there as fast as I could. Never pushed my ride so hard! Anyway I get there at 8:45 pm and the place looks packed. I find parking, run to the door only to find the doors are locked and DC police officer at the door. He tells me they are closed, as does the pizza cook (owners son) behind the counter. I tell him what that I just found out today bout them closing the DC location. Also that we've been eating there all my life & I just drove from across The Bay almost 100 miles to have a last taste of my childhood - I grew up in DC. I told the cook where I had just drove from and oddly enough he lived in the next town over. He then gave the DC cop the OK to open the door & let me in. I was told that they did not have much left for a pizza. I told him to make me a xl pie with what he had I think - pepperoni, salami, onions, bell peppers and LOTS of cheese and light on the sauce, cooked well done!

We talk a bit and he ask how we found out bout Toto's. My Aunt turned us onto this place L O N G and started a craze for GREAT pizza. As we are talking and my pie is cooking, the cook looks at another at the door that want's to come in. He tell's the poor soul that "we're are closed - sorry". I look over and it my Aunt's son - the same Aunt that told turned us on to Toto's when we were little kids!!! The cook lets my cousin in but tells him "sorry there nothing left. he got the last to go pizza". He meant me. I was unaware of that it was the LAST pie. Well it was the last "to go" and the last pie sold out of the Daly City location. Moments later a XL Cheese pie comes out the oven - now this is the VERY LAST PIZZA PIE - period. It's taken to the bar and one of the owners come up to my cousin and I and invite us to have a slice of the LAST PIE. How kewl is that! We sit, talk, saver the taste of this last slice of Toto's Daly City Pizza pie. I offered some of my pizza to my cousin to take home and he turns it down. Shortly there after we give our thanks and say so long to this piece of our history. On my way towards the door one of the other diners there is aware that I've got the last TO GO pizza, he offer me $50 for this treasured pie. Of course I turned him down. I drove home, sat down warmed up that XL and had a few slices before I fell asleep one happy man! The rest of it was consumed the next morning, noon & night :-)

Now no longer living in the area, I still judge pizza against Toto's. Not many have come close aside from slices I've had in NYC!

When fly back to The Bay Area - I make it a point to stop by Toto's San Bruno for a taste of my childhood/home.

BTW, I still have the pizza box & receipt from the LAST Toto's Daly City Pizza! Here are a few pic from Toto's San Bruno.

I've worked myself into a Toto's Pizza frenzy now!!

Give it a try. Toto's is the REAL DEAL!!
