Sushi Tomi Is Good Stuff: It's with mixed feelings I write this review.
I went for the first time last night. It was Thursday - on a whim - I made a reservation for two. It was a good whim as by 7:00 there were people standing up and down the sidewalk waiting to get into the joint.
The restaurant isn't huge. The atmosphere isn't spectacular, but the fish is the best I've had on the peninsula.
The thick, very fresh, slices of fish are served on perfect rice. For those of you who really like sushi, you'll know how important good rice is.
Everything tasted extremely fresh - from the miso, to the toro. Even the pickled ginger (gari) was some of the best I've had.
Sushi Tomi won't be an everyday indulgence though as the prices weren't cheap. $4 for 2 pieces of nigiri. Dinner for two was $60+ when all was said an done.
As I mentioned - this review is written with mixed feelings as I almost hate to have more people to compete with for seats.
Really good food at a very good price served by really nice people.
With a touch of Japanese authenticity, it's all we can be asking for!
I have been to Mt View for sushi several times, but haven't been here since last week. I was pleasantly surprised to find a good sushi place near Castro. The place is small and packed, but the wait is well worth it. The sushi was extremely fresh. I will definitely go back again.
