I LOVE MOLLY'S, it's a great place to party at and enjoy your self. It does get very crowded on the weekends, but it always has been a great vibe and mix of people.
This place prides itself on being an Irish Pub of sorts, but it really tries to cater to a younger, hipper crowd by bringing in DJ / dance music three nights out of the week, and usually charging a $5 cover (Thurs-Sat). The drinks are kind of expensive, but I guess they try to make up for that with the atmosphere and amenities.
The bar is only open in the evenings, so don't bother showing up before 5p.m.. You get a decent mix of people, but Thus-Sat night it becomes a little more crowded with a "club" feel instead of a relaxed pub atmosphere. If you visit it any other night of the week, you'll find it a more relaxed with no cover charge. It's dimly lit, but you can still find your way around. The outside patio is nice for smokers, as it allows them the ability to smoke, drink, and watch the big screen TV, or simply chat with others.
There is only one pool table, so get in line early by signing up on the chalk board if you want to play.
The bar is centrally located, which is nice as far as location goes. It is right on Castro Street, so it's not too far from anything. Across the street is a good pho place for a post-drinking feast. The area is a highly-patrolled area by the police, so be safe and designate a driver or call a cab.
All in all, this is a decent bar, depending on what kind of atmosphere and crowd you're hoping to find.
My favorite bar: This is probably my favorite bar in the bay area.
The interior is dimly lit, but not so much so that you can't see - it's just right.
If you're a smoker, there's a patio area in the back where you can smoke AND drink - a rarity in CA.
The barkeep that's there during most of the week is as friendly as they come - and Irish, to boot.
Prices are - well, it's a bar. So bring your wallet.
Also, because of where it's at, you have everything you need for a night out. There's a club a few doors down, if that's your thing. A plethora of restaurants, for when you get hungry. And a CalTrain station just down the road, so you don't have to worry about calling a cab or driving home.
It's a great bar/pub, with an excellent vibe and great people - what more could you want?
