Tasty food: I've never really tasted anything like it! The neatloaf reminded me of meatloaf, the sauce was almost like a BBQ sauce but really was tomatoe and the mash potatoes and gravy was excellent. I also had the ginger/lemon tea which helps the digestion. I thought the service was fine and the ambiance was very comfortable and well-lit. you didn't feel like you were eating in a dark place. I can't wait to go again.
Vegetarian Luncheon Delights at Ananda-Fuara: I was looking to try something different than the "typical" fares provided in the Civic Center Area. I had seen the large mural advertising this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The menu is quite varied - with sandwiches, Indian, Mexican, and American food.
I had a very fresh salad with sesame tahini dressing. The greens were organically grown and were crisp and tender. The entree was the pesto "chicken" wrap with vegetarian chicken, cheese, spinach, tomatoes, and pesto. The ingredients and flavors were well-balanced and not overly spicy. The vegetarian chicken was very good, although one can certainly tell the difference between this and "real" poultry. The staff was very polite and quite professional.
There can be a wait, particularly if there is only one or two people dining. They may make you wait, while parties of four may be seated ahead of you despite coming subsequent to your arrival. I was at the end of the peak lunch time, so they (albeit at first, reluctantly) permitted me to sit at a table for four. The waiter was nice enough to inform me that I would have to share the table if others come in. This is something which I became accustomed to visiting other countries, and even here in the San Francisco (the Financial District and Chinatown, as examples).
I thought this was a very good culinary experience and will return to try their samosas and vegi-burgers.
Delicious, Eclectic, Vegetarian!: I sampled the best tasting hummus ever here! Absolutely delicious and a light appetizer. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. A healthy hidden vegetarian oasis!
