| About: | With a collection of over 6,000 original pieces of cartoon art, this museum is the largest in the US, dedicated to Comic art. It all began in 1984, when a group of artists set up a series of open-air exhibitions of their work. Impressed by the dedication of this group, 'Peanuts' creator Charles M. Schulz helped the group set up a permanent home to display comics and comic art. You can find the works of Bud Fisher (Mutt and Jeff), George Herriman (Krazy Kat) and Charles M. Schulz (Peanuts), and a variety of other comic works on display at this museum. |

the Cartoon Art Museum is one of the coolest, most special museums in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please visit and stir up intrest. If you love Cartoons and all avenues of cartoon art, then you'll love visiting the Cartoon Art Museum!
by the way... 2010 is their 25th anniversary!
My family and I went to the Cartoon Art Museum today and in my opinion, it was OK. Nothing special. It wasn't what we expected. We walked in and bought the admission and learned that some of the content is innapropriate for children, so we couldn't go in certain exhibits(we were with our 12 yearold). That wouldn't be so bad if the exhibits we saw where good. The 'museum' was very very small. The exhibits were cartoons hung up and framed on the wall with titles next to them. Not the best, but the end of the exhibit was nice.

I'm surprised that the museum was displaying something that wasnt appropriate for children, i'm sorry to hear that. It is, after all, a museum, which is not specificlly for children, they do a lot FOR children to teach them art classes. and yes it is small, I wish they would expand but space is limited. Perhaps they could have a small show at the Metreon and get people interested in the museum? which exhibit did you see? (the one that wasnt "good") they rotate their exhibits every 6 months or so so the museum is constantly changing. This past summer (2009), they had movie props and costumes from Watchmen, Yosagi Yojimbo and DareDevil: The Man without fear which was very cool. We enjoyed it a lot. the exhibits are actually temporarily donated art pieces from art collections and personal Collectors, so yes, they are "just hung up and framed with titles next to them". some have descriptions but most do not.
