my boyfriend and I just had dinner at scalas and we loved it! the food was wonderful as well as the service. our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. our food was great my bf had the steak while i had the short rib pasta. we would love to go again.
My husband and I met another couple there for dinner on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008. Our friends had arrived first and they had water. Jeff and I arrived a few minutes later - the waiter never asked us if we wanted water. So we never got any. Bread was never offered so we didn't have any. I kept waiting for the waiter to ask us if we wanted water and for the bread to come. We did have wine. I ordered steak and it was so tough I could barely cut through it. No one brought me a steak knife I even had to ask for it. Even with a steak knife it took almost all my strength to cut this steak. I was desperately trying to do this in a manner that wouldn't draw attention to what I was doing. I wouldn't have accepted this garbage steak but didn't want to cause any fuss in front of our friends who were in town from NYC. The spinich with the steak was undercooked. The sauce and mashed potatoes were good. I have eaten here a few times and the food was never this bad - however it was never that great either. This was a disgrace, both the lousy service and the tough as nails steak filled with gristle. It was $34 and "almost" wasn't good enough for my dog. I won't be eating here anytime soon. Just gross. My husband enjoyed his salmon but the salmon was a very small piece.
GREAT FOOD...GOOD SERVICE...I JUST WISH IT WASN'T SO HARD TO GET IN! WE HAD A RESERVATION THE NIGHT WE ATE THERE, BUT THE WAITING LIST WAS TOO LONG A COUPLE OF NIGHTS LATER - GUESS THE "GOOD WORD" GETS AROUND! WISH YOU COULD SHIP SOME OF YOUR LEMON PARSLEY GNOCCHI TO PORTLAND, OR! I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ITALY, BUT MY DAUGHTER HAS AND SAID IT'S BETTER THAN SHE HAD THERE!!
