Abundant parking: As a south bayer, what I dread most about going to the SF city for dinner is the hassle of finding a parking spot. Though you are willing to pay $20 for parking, you may find yourself parking 5 blocks from the restaurant. When I found a street spot right across The Public on a sat night, I was really surprised.
The restaurant was not too busy and we had the upper floor to ourselves. (We had a big party of 25 people.) The food was very decent, on par with other restaurants of this price range. I will go back again with the ease of mind that I don't have to deal with parking.
Good Food, Interesting Atmosphere.: Had the steak and the pana cotta. Both were very good (a little too much fat on the meat) and the service was friendly but a little slow. Overall, a nice place to eat.
Yummy Poke: The owner is a really cool, nice guy. Also, just coming back from Hawaii and having an overabundance of good poke, I was still impressed with The Public's ahi poke. Just the right amount of spiciness to give it an extra kick. The ribs were good and messy, and I also really enjoyed the mandarin orange jicama salad. Drinks were delicious, I love the nice twist on the vodka momo (mojito). I thought of this place as a good backup for not being able to get into Sushi Groove, but The Public is not bad in its own right. Great laid back atmosphere in a classic warehouse-like setting.
