The service was good. The table was somewhat crammed. I had the rib eye steak, which came with a big, good baked potato as well as good vegetables. My steak was rare (as ordered). However, the meat tasted burnt and was quite bad. Two other people at my table ordered steaks and had the same opinion. One had a rib eye (medium rare), the other had a new york strip (medium well). Of the other two members of the table, one had seafood and was somewhat satisfied. The other was a vegetarian and discovered that there were no vegan options and very few vegetarian options. She asked the waitress about the issue and discovered that one could order vegetables and be charged for them individually or order a vegetarian linguine (neither of which were on the menu). She ended getting an ensemble of small vegetarian things and was satisfied. I would also like to point out that the prices seemed quite ridiculous. Many things seemed to cost $5-10 more than they were worth. The restaurant also seemed relatively empty for a so-called landmark.
The table had 5 people. the following was ordered:
food: asparagus (1), ensemble of vegetables (1), a seafood entree-don't remember which one(1), rib eye steak (2), new york strip steak (1)
drinks: 2 Beck's
After 19% tip, the meal cost $214.40
Delicious food and wine! I had the Chicken Jerusalem while staying nearby 6 months ago and I'm still drooling over it...shame it's so far away... 12 hours on the plane!
Quite Happy: John's Grill was able to accommodate our group of 18 without a hitch, on a very busy weekend! I liked the simple menu, and everyone enjoyed their meals immensely. I had "John's Steak", a strip steak that was cooked to perfection. There was also some great jazz guitar being played as we ate, which was very enjoyable. Staff was courteous and responsive. The occasion was my father's 75th birthday and it was a big hit!
