Great for Theater & Opera: The Market Street Grille is perfect for dining before going to a Broadway show at the Orpheum theater or before attending the Opera, Ballet, or Symphony. Food, Decor, and Service are excellent. We came from the East Bay so we took BART train that comes out right at the Restaurants Front Door (The Market St/8th St exit from the United Nations/Civic Center BART/MUNI station).
Try the Salmon, it fantastic!
After reading the other reviews, my husband and I went there for lunch before the Wednesday matinee at the Orpheum. It was 12:30pm with no reservation but we got in with a few tables still empty. It's a busy place but previous reviews are fairly accurate. Food was good. Very nice ambiance. Clean. I would recommend it and would come here again. Allow 60-75 minutes for lunch. Full bar. Close to BART (Civic Center). Inside Hotel Whitcomb(sp?). Good area during the day. Clam chowder is good but on the thick side.
We had dinner for six last Friday night. Great location! Across the street from the Orpheum (sp?) Theater. Convenient to have a nice dinner before seeing a play. We ordered the various soups and salads for appetizers. The clam chowder is excellent. So was the buttersquash soup. They brought us a complimentary appetizer of clams in sauce. Very tasty. We had the seafood pasta, chicken and steak for the entrees. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. Good wine selection (we suggest the merlot). We had tiramisu, apple tart and another dessert. Again, well worth it. The service was good. A little slow in getting us the check, but then again, we were 10 minutes to curtain call. We went there on someone's recommendation and were not disappointed.
