| About: | Opened in 1995, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art houses a permanent collection of over 15,000 works, including 4,700 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and 9,000 photographs. The museum has exhibited the works of Henri Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Dorothea Lange, Paul Klee, Cindy Sherman, Matthew Barney and many contemporary artists. Designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, the space itself is a wonder to behold. The lobby floor, for instance, is a massive chessboard. Gargantuan sculptures hang from above. This art gallery is located near the Yerba Buena Gardens. |

Distinctive: The architecture is what really sets the SFMoMA apart-- its distinctive center tower stands out above Yerba Buena Gardens and houses an amazing bridge inside. Floors and spaces flow into one another and with each installation you never know what to expect. The curators are working hard to attract world-class exhibits, with mixed results. The SFMoMA's permanent collection is quite good, and worth visiting again and again.
Definitely worth the trip for any San Francisco visitor.
Must see attraction: The San Francisco MOMA is a great museum if you like modern art the MOMA is worth going to see for its building and its exhibits. Its product design section is particularly good.
ART: This museum covers a large array of fantastic peices with color and I re ally enjoy the sculptures.
