Had a good experience there for our 20th anniversary dinner (Saturday Night). I read the reviews and was terrified I had made a mistake. But all went very well. Suggestion, Don't dilly dally ordering one coarse at a time, order all your courses at once, and don't ask for a lot of custom this and that, they have a lot of parties and tables so it is no wonder they get things confused if it is not on their program. They will bring them out at the appropriate time. All courses were very well presented, good portions (actually too good). Good flavor and the appropriate temperature. There was sufficient staff, all running around pleasing everyone. It was top notch service as I would expect on top of the world (SF style). So don't keep away from this one. Give it a try, you may have a really good time. I had asked for a window seat, but all tables close to the window were for 4 or more people. No problem, we had sweeping views of all the windows from the center of the room, it was beautiful, elegant and romantic. Bon Apetit. BTW - I am not an expert on dining out, but I eat out 3 times a week, so I know good and bad service when I see it. This was one of the better carefree experiences I have had. My advise is don't go to a view restaurant for the food, go for the view, and you won't be dissapointed. The food was OK, and after a few cocktails all was wonderful. Scott
I was very dissapointed with the Carnelian Room.
The service was pathetic. Our waiter seemed like a busboy standing in as a waiter except he didnt have that much personality.
At one point I watched him sneeze into his hand then immediataly reach for some silverware yuck.
I think my lobster had been a prize fighter before he was caught because he sure was tuff not to mention lukewarm.
Annnd to top it all off we went for my girlfriends birthday and the waiter kept saying happy anniversary. I didnt complain cause I didnt think he could even talk before that.
It seems like they settle with having a great view and let the rest slide abit.
This was the most expensive brunch I've tried, but the million dollar view was spectacular. From the freshly squeezed orange juice, to the jumbo prawns, prime rib, everything was first rate. The sushi was not great though, as the rice was not soft. I loved the mango shooters, and the banana dessert cooked with rum and brown sugar. The service was excellent.
