| About: | Come for the cheap drinks, stay for the rockin' jukebox. The Hemlock attracts a diverse crowd of mostly hipster and rocker types. The bar itself is a 360(deg) walk-around on two different levels and there are tables, chairs and wall-bench seats. Seating is scarce at night and during live shows it can be difficult to get a drink. Hot peanuts are served for your snacking pleasure and there is also a enclosed smoking lounge for the self-polluting. Hemlock is a Polk Street dive bar where you might not come up for air. But so what, we all have to go sometime, and Hemlock worked for Socrates and it may as well work for you. Live music plays in the back five to six nights a week. There is no cover charge to get into the bar, but a cover is typically charged to enter the music room. |

User Rating: 4 out of 5 starsNightgeist: The smaller, lesser known cousin of Zeitgeist, this bar is full of an amalgam of tattoos, fixed gears, and nice light fixtures. When the back yard of Zeitgeist is unhospitable, you can still find refuge at the Hemlock, and hence has earned the title of Nightgeist
