| About: | Delancey is a great venue for any meal of the day. Its open air patio looks right over the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge, and depending on what time of the year it is, you can enjoy your meal as the fog rolls in or as the sun shines bright. The interior is well lit and roomy, and staff are welcoming and attentive. An interesting fact about this restaurant is its community service aspect. The founder of the Delancey Street Foundation, Mimi Silbert, had a vision in 1971 to employ recovering addicts and criminals, so that they could learn the importance of the strict rules she laid out. The atmosphere of the restaurant is light, the food is moderately priced and tasty especially the grilled chicken and tuna sandwiches, and chicken skewers with peanut sauce are worth a try. |

Donât let the fancy exterior and the white linen table cloth or the fantastic view of the Bay Bridge fool you into thinking that your meal will be costly. The most expensive item on the menu is the grilled rack of lamb covered with minted zinfandel sauce, served with mashed potatoes and sautéed squash ($13.950) And Sonny's Mom's sweet potato pie is to die for. The Delancey Street Restaurant fits both my desire for a good meal(after a three mile walk from Fisherman's Wharf) and my wallet which is thinner than my waist line.
My friend and I had just come from Santa Cruz and were exhausted and very hungry. Walking down Embarcadero, we were faced with closed doors for blocks because it was so late at night. Finally, after forty minutes of walking, I spotted this restaurant that looked fancy. At first I thought it was an expensive restaurant with tired and strict waiters, but it was the complete opposite. They happily seated us and took our orders patiently. The food was amazing! I had a leg of lamb and mashed potatoes while my friend had chicken pasta, and the whole thing was just under $23. When we left, everyone there waved and said goodbye and even helped us find our way back home. It was the best service and food I had ever had, and I have been telling everyone I know about this restaurant since.
Great prices, good food, great service, great location.
Great place on a sunny day, get away from work, a lunch date, whatever, its a nice place. Kims Pasta Pesto is my newest favorite.
