| About: | Sanraku Four Seasons, a quietly chic spot has won considerable praise for the freshness of its ingredients (particularly fish) and the meticulous preparation of its dishes. A small and very simply decorated room, it nonetheless impresses with its refinement and understated elegance. The sushi selection may not surprise, but certainly pleases, and grilled and tempura selections from the menu are nicely handled and delicious. The staff is friendly and efficient. |

I'm not impressed: The place was packed for a Thursday night. The prices on the menu were reasonable and cheap. We were able to sit down after a short wait. However, the food was horrible. We ordered a starter -tuna tar tar, spicy salmon sushi, uni sushi, beef teriyaki (medium rare) w/ sashimi. The restaurant was so busy that our food came after a 20 min. wait. What's worst is they first served a well done beef teriyaki with rice. Then after following up our other orders bec another 10 mins passed they served the sashimi and sushi. The uni sushi was great but the spicy salmon was not a bit spicy.I was disappointed. The last order that arrived was our starter-the tuna tar tar. Overall, we did not have a good experience with this restaurant with such high reviews.
Sanraku Sushi Bar No.1!: It was our first time in San Francisco and first time eating sushi as well :-) All I can say is: It was fantastic! If you don´t know what to order (or if it´s your first time in sushi bar :-) the "lunch box" will nicely surprise you. It´s not just some "raw fish" but it´s a pleasure of eating. I can´t forget to appreciate nice, friendly, fast and helpful service. If I come back to San Francisco one day, I´m sure I will go to Sanraku.
Consistently delicious for a decade: During the dot-com boom days of the late 90's, I would eat here 5-6 times a week, usually during lunch. When I'm not living in SF, and just visiting, this is my first culinary stop. It's just good food...I'm not competent to assess the cultural accuracy, but I can say they know how to feed me. Daily bento box (about $8) specials are great, and include some California rolls, a main dish (changes daily - teriyaki chicken is a favorite of mine), a side dish (cold poached salmon, sometimes), miso, and a great salad. I tend towards nigiri, and their yellowtail and tuna always are fresh. My go-to place for lunch in SF that I can't recommend any higher. (The Sanraku in the Metreon is not quite as good, but still passable.)
