| About: | Often ranked in the Top 100 San Francisco restaurants by local polls, this fine restaurant specializes in Swiss cuisine with a handful of German dishes. The wait staff speaks German and French, as well as English and valet services are available. The decor evokes a Swiss chalet with carved beams in the ceiling and Alpine knick-knacks throughout. The dining room is large, but surprisingly cozy, offering both table and booth service. Most people come for the great fondue. There are many options where the entrees feature blends of meats and Swiss cheeses, with bread and veggies for dipping. For dessert, dip fruit and marshmallows into rich, milk chocolate. |

One of the first restaurants I came to as a tourist to San Francisco, and it is an impressive place to take your visiting relatives since cheese and chocolate will soothe even the most riled of souls.
The decor is kitschy for sure. I believe even the waitresses were dolledup in costumes. Light and clashing!
The food is pretty good. I don't have much room for comparison, merely because it's hard to find dedicated fondue restaurants with this many dippy things. Especially scrumptious is the meat fondue...mmm!! Way more figure-friendly than the bread in cheese mainstay.
Only if you are DESPERATE for fondue: If this place had any competition, it would have been out of business a decade ago (service, decor, food), but I have to admit that when I get the fondu jones, this is where I go...
Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant: This place is very nice and romantic. Good for group size of 4+. Gotta try the red wine meat fondue. It's great! The cheese fondue is alright...It's a little bit pricey but good for special occasion. The services were really good and friendly. The owners come and greet you and also they made sure you don't have unanswered questions about their food and the appropriate way to dive into the fondue. It's worth to try this out once or twice...But the drawback is the parking around Van Ness Ave.
